Craniosacral Therapy in Minneapolis

Gentle Bodywork + Reiki Healing at The Salt Cave Minnesota

Sometimes the body doesn't need more pressure, more effort, or more stimulation.

It needs an opportunity to slow down.

At The Salt Cave Minnesota, we offer private 50- and 90-minute Craniosacral Therapy sessions with Dr. Jessica Tapper, combining gentle craniosacral bodywork with Reiki in the peaceful atmosphere of our Minneapolis wellness space.

Craniosacral therapy is a subtle, hands-on complementary practice that uses an exceptionally light touch. Rather than the pressure, kneading, and manipulation associated with traditional massage, craniosacral therapy invites the body into stillness.

For people accustomed to constantly doing, thinking, working, caring for others, or simply moving through a busy life, the experience can provide something increasingly difficult to find:

Permission to be still.

What Is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral therapy, often abbreviated as CST, is a gentle form of hands-on bodywork.

The practice focuses primarily on areas around the head, spine, and sacrum, although a practitioner may work with other areas of the body as well.

Using very light touch, a craniosacral practitioner listens and responds to subtle patterns of tension within the body and connective tissues.

Unlike traditional massage, there is typically no deep pressure, vigorous manipulation, or muscle kneading.

Instead, craniosacral therapy is quiet, slow, and subtle.

That gentleness is one reason people who find traditional massage too intense may be drawn to craniosacral work.

What Does Craniosacral Therapy Feel Like?

Every person's experience is different.

During your session, you'll rest comfortably while Dr. Jessica Tapper uses gentle hand placements around areas of the body such as the head, neck, back, and sacrum.

You remain fully clothed.

Some people notice subtle sensations during the session, while others simply experience an increasingly deep sense of relaxation.

You may notice:

  • Your breathing naturally becoming slower and deeper

  • Muscles beginning to soften

  • A feeling of heaviness or lightness

  • Warmth or subtle sensations throughout the body

  • Mental chatter becoming quieter

  • A greater awareness of your body

  • A sense of calm or stillness

  • Deep relaxation

And sometimes, you may simply fall asleep.

There is no particular way you are supposed to feel.

The experience is an opportunity to stop doing and simply allow yourself to rest.

Why Do People Choose Craniosacral Therapy?

People seek craniosacral therapy for many different reasons.

Some are interested in gentle bodywork as part of their overall wellness routine. Others are primarily looking for relaxation and an opportunity to slow down.

People may explore craniosacral therapy when seeking support for:

  • Stress and tension

  • Deep relaxation

  • Body awareness

  • Rest and restoration

  • General wellness

  • A gentler alternative to traditional massage

  • Complementary bodywork alongside conventional healthcare

  • A quiet, meditative wellness experience

Craniosacral therapy is a complementary wellness practice rather than a replacement for medical diagnosis or treatment. Research into its effectiveness for specific health conditions remains limited and mixed.

Craniosacral Therapy + Reiki

Our sessions at The Salt Cave offer something more than craniosacral bodywork alone.

Reiki healing is incorporated into your experience.

Reiki is a complementary energy-based wellness practice traditionally performed by placing the practitioner's hands lightly on—or just above—the body.

Because both Reiki and craniosacral therapy are quiet, gentle practices, they pair naturally.

There is no need to switch treatments or interrupt your relaxation.

Instead, Reiki can be woven throughout the craniosacral session, creating one continuous restorative experience.

Many people choose Reiki for the sense of peace, mindfulness, and relaxation they experience during a session.

Like craniosacral therapy, Reiki should be viewed as a complementary wellness practice rather than a treatment for medical conditions.

Meet Your Practitioner: Dr. Jessica Tapper

Your craniosacral sessions at The Salt Cave Minnesota are currently offered by Dr. Jessica Tapper (Dr. Jess).

Dr. Jess has completed more than 250 hours of clinically supervised training in craniosacral therapy.

She trained in craniosacral therapy with Dr. Greg Yasuda at Bastyr University and continued her education by precepting with Dr. Steven Hall.

Craniosacral therapy remains one of her favorite modalities to incorporate into her work with patients.

Her experience extends beyond craniosacral therapy.

Dr. Jess began practicing Usui Reiki in 2017 and became a Reiki Master Teacher in 2020, giving her nearly a decade of experience with energy healing practices.

She has continued studying complementary and traditional approaches to wellness through mentorship and advanced training.

This combination allows Dr. Jess to create sessions that are individualized rather than formulaic.

Your experience is designed around you.

What Happens During Your Session?

Your experience begins by getting comfortable and settling into the space.

Unlike massage therapy, you generally remain fully clothed during craniosacral therapy, so we recommend wearing soft, comfortable clothing that allows you to completely relax.

Dr. Jess will use gentle hand placements and light touch throughout the session.

There is no deep-tissue massage.

No forceful manipulation.

No stretching routine you need to perform.

And there is nothing you need to accomplish.

Your only job is to relax.

As the session progresses, Reiki may also be incorporated into the experience.

Some guests prefer silence throughout their session. Others may want to discuss what they're experiencing.

Your session can unfold according to your comfort level.

Choose a 50- or 90-Minute Session

50-Minute Craniosacral Therapy + Reiki

Our 50-minute experience is ideal if you're new to craniosacral therapy or simply want to incorporate gentle bodywork and relaxation into your wellness routine.

It provides enough time to settle into the experience while still fitting easily into a busy day.

Ideal for:

First-time clients • Regular wellness visits • Relaxation • Stressful weeks • A midday reset

90-Minute Craniosacral Therapy + Reiki

Our 90-minute experience allows the session to unfold more gradually and provides additional space for deeper relaxation and individualized craniosacral and Reiki work.

This is our recommendation for guests who want a more immersive experience.

Ideal for:

Deep relaxation • Extended self-care • Returning clients • Those who need more time to settle • A complete mind-body reset

Craniosacral Therapy vs. Massage

One of the most common questions people have is:

Is craniosacral therapy a type of massage?

Not exactly.

Although both involve therapeutic touch, they feel quite different.

Traditional massage typically works directly with muscles and other soft tissues using pressure, kneading, stretching, or manipulation.

Craniosacral therapy uses a much lighter touch and is generally performed while you remain fully clothed.

If you love deep-tissue massage and want significant muscular pressure, craniosacral therapy will feel very different.

But if you're looking for something quiet, subtle, gentle, and deeply relaxing, craniosacral therapy may be exactly the experience you've been searching for.

Who Might Enjoy Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral therapy can appeal to people who:

  • Feel mentally or physically overstimulated

  • Carry significant everyday tension

  • Have difficulty slowing down

  • Prefer gentle touch to deep massage

  • Practice meditation, yoga, Reiki, or other complementary wellness modalities

  • Are interested in mind-body wellness

  • Want dedicated time for rest

  • Are curious about alternative forms of bodywork

  • Simply want to experience something different

You don't need any previous experience with bodywork, Reiki, meditation, or holistic wellness.

You can simply arrive as you are.

Is Craniosacral Therapy Safe?

Craniosacral therapy is generally considered a gentle, noninvasive complementary practice.

However, it isn't appropriate for everyone.

Certain conditions affecting the brain, cerebrospinal fluid pressure, blood vessels, or recent head injuries may require avoiding or delaying craniosacral therapy. If you've recently experienced a concussion or have a neurological, vascular, or other significant medical condition, speak with your healthcare provider before scheduling.

Craniosacral therapy and Reiki are complementary wellness practices and are not substitutes for medical evaluation, diagnosis, medication, physical therapy, or other treatment recommended by your healthcare provider.

Frequently Asked Questions About Craniosacral Therapy

What is craniosacral therapy?

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, hands-on complementary bodywork practice using very light touch, particularly around the head, spine, sacrum, and connective tissues.

Do I take my clothes off?

No. Craniosacral therapy is typically performed while you remain fully clothed. Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to relax.

Is craniosacral therapy the same as massage?

No. Massage generally uses pressure and manipulation of muscles and soft tissues. Craniosacral therapy uses much lighter touch and is typically considerably more subtle.

Does craniosacral therapy hurt?

Craniosacral therapy is designed to be extremely gentle. If anything feels uncomfortable during your session, always tell your practitioner.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a complementary energy-healing practice that may involve light touch or the practitioner's hands being held slightly above the body. Many people use Reiki as a relaxation and mindfulness practice.

Why combine Reiki and craniosacral therapy?

Both are gentle practices that can be performed without interrupting your relaxed position. Combining them allows Dr. Jess to create one continuous wellness experience rather than two separate treatments.

Should I choose 50 or 90 minutes?

If you've never experienced craniosacral therapy, a 50-minute session is an excellent introduction. Choose 90 minutes if you'd like more time to settle deeply into the experience and receive a longer, more immersive session.

How will I feel afterward?

Everyone responds differently. Some people report feeling deeply relaxed, calm, tired, refreshed, or more aware of their bodies. Give yourself a little time after your session before rushing back into a busy schedule.

Can craniosacral therapy treat a medical condition?

Craniosacral therapy should be considered complementary care rather than a replacement for evidence-based medical treatment. Scientific evidence regarding its effectiveness for specific medical conditions remains mixed and limited.
